American Airlines Adds Daily Phoenix Route to McAllen International Airport
Staff Report
McAllen, TX - American Airlines will launch new daily nonstop service between McAllen International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport beginning June 4, 2026, marking a major expansion of westbound connectivity for the Rio Grande Valley. Ticket sales opened Dec. 20, 2025.
Airport and city officials said the new year-round route strengthens McAllen’s access to a key national hub while offering travelers additional one-stop options to destinations across the United States and internationally. Phoenix becomes American’s second hub served from McAllen.
American Airlines Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning Brian Znotins said the airline’s 2026 plans include new routes from cities such as McAllen, broadening travel opportunities for residents.
Mayor Javier Villalobos said the partnership with American Airlines will support business travel and attract leisure travelers to and from the region. He said the service adds a direct link to an important western destination.
City Manager Isaac J. Tawil said the decision reflects American’s confidence in the McAllen market and the airport’s ongoing efforts to expand air service. He said the route is expected to benefit local residents, employers and visitors.
Airport Director Jeremy A. Santoscoy said the Phoenix flight provides an additional gateway for travelers connecting to the West Coast and other U.S. destinations through the airline’s hub network.
