McAllen, TX - The City of McAllen is accepting applications for its 2026 Summer Internship Program, offering college students an opportunity to gain professional experience while working with city departments. The paid internship program is scheduled to begin May 18 and will run for approximately 10 weeks.
Program overview
City officials said the internship program is designed to provide students with real-world work experience while supporting city operations and community services. Interns will work alongside city professionals and gain exposure to municipal government and public service.
The program is part-time, allowing interns to work up to 19 hours per week while maintaining flexible schedules.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be undergraduate college or university students classified as juniors or seniors. Participants must also be able to work a flexible schedule and complete their duties on-site within the City of McAllen.
The program allows students to work within areas related to their academic field of interest while building professional skills and strengthening their resumes.
Application process
Students interested in applying must submit a resume and a brief description of their field of interest to the city’s Human Resources department. Applications should be emailed to careers@mcallen.net with the subject line “Summer Internship Program.”
The application deadline for the program is March 27.
