Early Voting, Hidalgo County, Elections, Voter ID, Texas, Rio Grande Valley, November Election
Staff Report
Edinburg TX - Early voting in Hidalgo County begins today, Monday, Oct. 19, and runs through Friday, Oct. 30, ahead of the Nov. 3 general election. Election Day polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Voters can find their nearest polling location at the Hidalgo County Elections Department’s online locator at https://hidalgoelections.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/nearby/index.html?appid=ca66194e256342bca592007a24e0c953.
Voter ID Requirements
Texas law requires voters to present one of seven acceptable forms of photo identification at the polls: a Texas Driver License, Texas Election Identification Certificate, Texas Personal ID Card, Texas Handgun License, U.S. Citizenship Certificate with photo, U.S. Military ID Card, or U.S. Passport (book or card). The Hidalgo County Elections Department noted that voters may now use the last four digits of a Social Security number in place of a driver’s license number, under new state legislation.
Voter Registration Certificate
Although voters are not required to bring their voter registration certificate to the polls, the Hidalgo County Elections Department strongly recommends doing so. The certificate can help voters cast a regular ballot rather than a provisional ballot in several circumstances.
If a voter does not possess one of the seven acceptable forms of photo identification and cannot obtain one due to a reasonable impediment, presenting a valid voter registration certificate allows the voter to execute a Reasonable Impediment Declaration and cast a regular ballot.
If a voter’s name does not appear on the official list of registered voters in the precinct, presenting a valid voter registration certificate along with an acceptable form of photo identification may allow the voter to cast a regular ballot.
Voters who need a replacement registration certificate may contact the county voter registrar’s office at (956) 318-2570.
