Hidalgo County TX - The Hidalgo County Elections Department is conducting a poll worker recruitment campaign for the November 2026 General Election.
The department’s goal is to recruit 900 poll workers, with a target of 1,050 or more applicants to ensure a sufficient pool of qualified candidates, to staff polling locations throughout Hidalgo County during early voting and on Election Day.
Under the campaign message “Step Up for Your Community. Become a Poll Worker!” the department is emphasizing the role poll workers play in the electoral process.
Hidalgo County Elections Administrator Hilda A. Salinas said the department is seeking applicants from all backgrounds. “Poll workers are a vital part of our elections,” Salinas said. “We are asking residents from all walks of life to step up, get involved and serve their community. Whether you are retired, a college student, a veteran or simply someone who wants to make a difference, we encourage you to learn more about becoming a poll worker.”
The recruitment campaign will focus outreach on seniors and retirees, college and vocational students, veterans and other civic-minded residents, including local colleges and universities such as UTRGV and South Texas College, as well as community organizations, nonprofits, libraries, community centers and veterans’ organizations. All residents are welcome to apply for the paid positions, according to the department.
