McAllen, TX - The International Museum of Art & Science will offer a mix of hands-on art workshops for children and live music for adults this weekend, giving families and art lovers several reasons to spend time at the museum.
Saturday activities for young artists
On Saturday, Jan. 24, IMAS will host a Brownie-level Outdoor Art workshop from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The session invites participants to draw inspiration from nature while creating collage art and salt dough projects.
Participants will make a nature-themed wind chime and a small take-home garden, with the workshop covering all steps of the creative process. A light snack will be provided.
Sunday art and design workshop
The museum continues its youth programming Sunday, Jan. 25, with a Junior Art and Design workshop from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The workshop includes a guided tour of the museum’s fine art galleries, followed by hands-on artmaking using different media and compositions.
Participants will also learn how to transform their artwork into custom stickers. All materials and instruction are included.
Live jazz at IMAS
Music takes center stage Sunday afternoon as part of the UTRGV Concert Series. The UTRGV Jazz Combo will perform from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. inside the museum’s fine art galleries.
The ensemble, directed by Marco Guerra, features faculty and student musicians from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Music. The program includes a selection of jazz works performed in the gallery setting, offering visitors a chance to experience live music alongside visual art.

IMAS is located at 1900 W. Nolana Ave. in McAllen. Admission pricing varies, with discounts available for students, seniors and children. Some workshops require advance registration.
