Staff Report
McAllen, TX - The McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the McAllen Economic Development Corporation have announced the appointment of Edward Lopez, general manager of the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton McAllen, to the Lower Rio Grande Valley Local Workforce Development Board.
Lopez brings more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry and oversees a staff of more than 70 employees at one of McAllen’s key hotel properties. His selection is intended to strengthen employer representation on the regional board responsible for guiding workforce strategy across Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy counties.
The Lower Rio Grande Valley Workforce Development Board—also known as Workforce Solutions—directs workforce services, job training programs and initiatives that support both job seekers and employers. The board plays a central role in aligning training investments with labor market needs and managing federal and state workforce funds.
McAllen Chamber and MEDC President and CEO Elizabeth Suarez said Lopez’s background in operations, customer service and workforce development will provide valuable insight, particularly for the hospitality and service sectors.
Chamber and MEDC officials said the appointment supports McAllen’s broader goal of developing a skilled, adaptable workforce that meets the needs of local industries and supports long-term economic growth.
