McAllen TX - The McAllen Board of Commissioners will hold a workshop and regular meeting on Monday, April 27, 2026, at McAllen City Hall to review infrastructure updates, zoning changes and routine city business.
The workshop is scheduled for 4 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers.
Workshop to Focus on Infrastructure Updates
During the workshop, commissioners will have the opportunity to present questions to staff regarding items listed on the regular meeting agenda.
Presentations will include updates on street lighting and the city’s drainage utility fee. The agenda also allows for executive session discussions related to economic development, real property, personnel matters and consultation with legal counsel.
Public Hearing to Address Rezoning and Land Use
The regular meeting agenda includes a public hearing with multiple rezoning requests and conditional use permits.
Among the items under consideration are rezoning requests for properties on South Taylor Road, North 23rd Street, North Ware Road and Augusta Avenue, as well as city-initiated rezonings tied to the transition from the old zoning code to the Unified Development Code.
Requests also include conditional use permits for a vape store on Dove Avenue and a cigar lounge/workshop on North 10th Street.
Additional consideration includes a conditional use permit request for a portable food concession stand on North 23rd Street.
Consent Agenda and Agreements
The consent agenda includes approval of prior meeting minutes, monthly project and subdivision reports and an interlocal cooperation agreement with Hidalgo County for 2026 county library services.
Commissioners will also consider a budget amendment for the Special Events Fund and approval of multiple tax refunds exceeding $500.
Contracts and Infrastructure Projects
The agenda includes consideration of bids and contracts, including the purchase of dumpster floors and a roadway widening project on 29th Street from FM 1925 (Monte Cristo Road) to SH 107.
Commissioners will also review a contract amendment for additional services related to the 2nd Street and Wisconsin Road roundabout intersection improvements.
Variance Requests
Two variance requests are scheduled for consideration, including requests related to roadway requirements and block length for a subdivision on South Taylor Road and right-of-way and sidewalk requirements for a property on South 27th Street.
Proclamation and Opening Items
The meeting will open with a proclamation recognizing National Travel and Tourism Week.
Mayor Javier Villalobos is scheduled to call the meeting to order, followed by the pledge of allegiance and invocation led by Commissioner Antonio “Tony” Aguirre Jr.
Executive Session
The agenda provides for executive session discussions under the Texas Government Code, including consultation with legal counsel, deliberation regarding real property, personnel matters and economic development negotiations.
Any action resulting from executive session discussions will be taken in open session.
