McAllen, TX - Two McAllen Independent School District student-athletes formalized their plans to compete at the collegiate level this month, signing national letters of intent during separate ceremonies at their respective campuses.
McAllen High softball signing
Giada Farias of McAllen High School signed a commitment Wednesday, Jan. 14, to attend St. Edward’s University in Austin, where she will compete in softball.
Farias has been a four-year varsity starter at catcher for the Bulldogs, anchoring the team defensively while providing leadership behind the plate throughout her high school career. The signing ceremony was held on campus and attended by family, coaches and teammates.
McAllen Memorial golf signing
At McAllen Memorial High School, Kai Tamez signed his commitment Thursday, Jan. 15, to attend Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas, where he will compete in men’s golf.
Tamez was recognized as the Boys Golfer of the Year at the 2025 All Valley Sports Awards. The signing ceremony took place at Memorial High and marked the culmination of his high school golf career.
Continuing athletic careers
Both athletes will continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level, representing McAllen ISD schools as they transition to collegiate competition.
