McAllen TX - The McAllen ISD Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the Dr. Ricardo Chapa Board Room, Administration Building, 2000 N. 23rd St.
Educator Partnership Agreements
The board will consider four consent agenda items related to educator preparation and retention partnerships, all submitted by Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. Albert Canales and to be presented by Superintendent Dr. René Gutiérrez:
A Preparing and Recruiting Educators through Partnership memorandum of understanding for 2026-2027 between McAllen ISD and Region One Education Service Center
An Apprenticeship Pathway Related Instruction Partnership Agreement between McAllen ISD and Western Governors University
A PREP Grow Your Own memorandum of understanding between McAllen ISD and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley
A Preparing and Retaining Educators through Partnership Grow Your Own Program memorandum of understanding between McAllen ISD and South Texas College
2026 Bond Update and Oversight
The board will receive a report on the 2026 bond and consider two related action items: the selection of a senior underwriter and co-managers for the 2026 bond, and the creation of a bond oversight committee. All three items were submitted by Deputy Superintendent for Business and Operations Lorena Garcia and will be presented by Gutiérrez.
Closed Session
The board will recess into closed session to discuss human resources recommendations for the 2026-2027 school year, employee resignations for both the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years, and principal recommendations for Homer J. Morris Middle School and Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. The board will reconvene in open session to take any necessary action on those items.
