McAllen TX - The McAllen Independent School District Board of Trustees will consider a mental health proclamation, instructional program updates and multiple agreements during its regular meeting scheduled for April 28, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
The meeting will open with a call to order, moment of silence, pledge of allegiance and public comments.
Recognition of Apprenticeship Cohort
Trustees will recognize McAllen ISD’s Registered Apprentices – Cohort 1, with the item submitted by Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. Albert Canales.
Mental Health Awareness Proclamation
The board will discuss and consider adopting a proclamation recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month, submitted by Associate Superintendent for Instructional Services Dr. Rosalba De Hoyos.
Consent Agenda Includes Agreements and Proposals
The consent agenda includes several items for consideration, including an interlocal cooperation agreement for the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf and multiple memorandums of understanding.
Among those are agreements with the Hidalgo County Juvenile Board for the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program and partnerships with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and Region One Education Service Center for PREP residency programs.
Trustees will also consider multiple requests for proposals covering career and technical education supplies, fine arts equipment, professional development materials, apparel and catering-related services.
Instructional Programs and Academic Initiatives
The board will receive a report on the STEM Academy at Travis Middle School as part of instructional services updates.
Trustees will also consider certification of the provision of instructional materials for the 2026–2027 school year and an interlocal agreement for a dual credit program in Spanish with The University of Texas at San Antonio.
Business and Governance Items
District officials will present a report regarding a revised purchasing scoring matrix as part of business and operations updates.
Board members will also consider approval of previous meeting minutes and receive the annual announcement of continuing education requirements for trustees.
Closed Session Topics
The board is scheduled to recess into closed session to discuss human resources recommendations, employee resignations and retirements, school safety and security, pending or potential litigation and possible real estate acquisition.
Action Following Closed Session
Upon returning to open session, trustees may take action on personnel recommendations, resignations and retirements, as well as matters related to school safety, litigation and real estate.
