McAllen TX - The McAllen Independent School District Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 4:30 p.m., a regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 5:30 p.m., and a second special meeting Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m.
Special Meeting, Sept. 22, 4:30 p.m.
The board will convene in closed session to hold a Level III grievance hearing for Edward Wylie, followed by reconvening in open session to take action on the matter.
Regular Meeting, Sept. 22, 5:30 p.m.
Proclamations
The board will recognize a proclamation from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott regarding Dyslexia Awareness Month, and will discuss and consider adopting a proclamation regarding Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
Consent Agenda
The board will consider a request for proposal for Career and Technology Education instructional supplies, materials, equipment and related services; a request for proposal for building and maintenance materials, supplies and equipment; a memorandum of understanding with Web-Centric Alternative Certification Program/eTools4Education, LLC for a clinical teaching practicum experience; and discussion and possible action on the superintendent’s summative evaluation.
Human Resources
The board will discuss and consider action on board policy BJCF (Local), covering superintendent nonrenewal; discuss, on first reading, board policy CFB (Local), covering accounting inventories and capitalization threshold; discuss, on first reading, an update to the district’s Texas Association of School Boards localized policy manual; discuss and consider action regarding Senate Bill 12 compliance, covering annual certification submission and trustee information requirements; and consider approval of the 2026-2027 list of certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System appraisers.
Business and Operations
The board will receive a report on enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year, a quarterly investment report for the period of April 1 through June 30, 2026, and an annual investment report for the period of July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
The board will discuss an extension of a City of McAllen Community Development Block Grant funding agreement for a community parking lot at Dorothea Brown Middle School, and will consider the district’s August budget amendment for the current fiscal year.
The board will consider approval and adoption of a resolution setting the district’s 2026 property tax rate.
Board of Trustees
The board will consider approval of minutes from the Sept. 8 regular board meeting.
Closed Session
The board will meet in closed session to discuss human resources recommendations for the 2026-2027 school year, employee resignations and retirements, a recommendation for associate superintendent of instructional services, school safety and security, pending or potential litigation, and possible real estate acquisition.
Open Session
Following closed session, the board will consider action on items discussed, including human resources recommendations and the recommendation for associate superintendent of instructional services.
Special Meeting, Sept. 23, 5 p.m.
The board will discuss the 2026-2027 McAllen ISD Teaching and Learning Framework with staff supports for improving student outcomes.
Scheduled Meetings
The board scheduled an additional special meeting for Sept. 28 at noon and its next regular meeting for Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m., both in the Dr. Ricardo Chapa Board Room of the Administration Building. No agenda has been posted for either meeting, yet.
