McAllen, TX - The McAllen Independent School District Board of Trustees will hold two workshop meetings this week focused on student achievements and early budget planning for the 2026-2027 school year. The district will not hold a regular board meeting until April.
The workshops are scheduled for March 23 and March 24, both beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Budget workshop to address staffing and compensation
The first workshop, scheduled for March 23, will focus on early discussions related to the 2026-2027 budget, including staffing and compensation considerations.
District officials will review a pay system maintenance report prepared by the Texas Association of School Boards, as well as information related to student enrollment trends, recruitment and retention efforts, stipends and the overall budget outlook.
The discussion will be led by Deputy Superintendent for Business and Operations Lorena Garcia.
The workshop allows trustees to review financial information and ask questions before formal budget decisions are made later in the year.
Student recognitions highlight academic and extracurricular success
The March 24 workshop will focus primarily on recognizing student achievements across academics, athletics and fine arts programs throughout the district.
Under instructional services, trustees will recognize the 2026 District Spelling Bee winners, Battle of the Books district and regional winners and the Elementary District Science Olympiad winners.
Athletics recognitions will include student-athletes from McAllen Memorial High School, James “Nikki” Rowe High School and McAllen High School.
Fine arts recognitions will highlight achievements by the McAllen High School, McAllen Memorial High School and James “Nikki” Rowe High School vertical team programs.
Public comments will be accepted at both meetings.
Next regular meeting scheduled in April
District officials indicated the board’s next regular meeting will take place in April, making the March workshops an opportunity for trustees to continue planning and recognizing student accomplishments during the interim period.
Both workshops will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be open to the public.
