Staff Report
MCALLEN TX - The McAllen Independent School District Board of Trustees will consider work authorizations for three 2026 bond projects and receive a quarterly financial report when it meets Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. in the Dr. Ricardo Chapa Board Room at the Administration Building, 2000 North 23rd Street, McAllen.
Bond Projects
The board will consider approving work authorizations for three projects tied to the 2026 bond program: HVAC improvements at McAllen Memorial High School, a surveillance system upgrade at James “Nikki” Rowe High School, and exterior modifications at William B. Travis Middle School. Trustees will also be asked to approve the project delivery method for each. The items were submitted by Deputy Superintendent for Business and Operations Lorena Garcia.
Financial Report
The board will receive a financial report covering the quarter of April through June 2026. The report was also submitted by Garcia.
Veterans Memorial Stadium
Trustees will consider approving final payment to Hellas Construction Inc. on Contract No. 2026-180 for upgrades to McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Cybersecurity Insurance
The board will consider Request for Proposal 2027-1013 for cybersecurity liability insurance.
Policy Second Readings
Trustees will take up two policy items on second reading: Board Policy CFB (LOCAL) on Accounting Inventories and Capitalization Threshold, and Texas Association of School Boards Localized Policy Manual Update 127. Both items were submitted by Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. Albert Canales.
Consent Agenda
The board will also consider a sponsorship agreement with Wing Daddy’s and a request for proposal covering catering, entertainment, field trips, fundraising, food, restaurants, rentals, retail and other related products and services.
Recognitions
The meeting will open with recognition of Governor Greg Abbott’s proclamation designating October 2026 as Principals’ Month and recognition of National Head Start Awareness Month.
Closed Session
The board is scheduled to recess into closed session to discuss personnel recommendations, employee resignations and retirements for the 2026-2027 school year, school safety and security, pending and potential litigation, and a possible real estate acquisition.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 20, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
