McAllen, TX - McAllen Independent School District students and employees are set to return to campus this week following the Christmas break, according to the district’s 2025–2026 academic calendar.
Teachers and other McAllen ISD staff will report back to work on Tuesday, Jan. 6, for a designated workday focused on planning, preparation and professional responsibilities. Students across the district will return to classes on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Return to instruction
District officials said the Jan. 6 workday allows teachers and staff time to prepare classrooms, review instructional plans and finalize preparations for the spring semester before students arrive.
The return to class on Jan. 7 marks the start of the second half of the academic year for McAllen ISD campuses, which serve thousands of students throughout the city.

The return dates are outlined in the official 2025–2026 academic calendar approved by the McAllen Independent School District Board of Trustees. The calendar includes scheduled holidays, professional development days and grading periods for the remainder of the school year.
