McAllen, TX - The McAllen ISD Board of Trustees will meet Monday, March 9, at 5:30 p.m. with school safety and security discussions among the key items on the agenda.
School safety discussion
Trustees are scheduled to review several safety-related topics during closed session, including findings from the Texas Education Agency intruder detection audit. The discussion will focus on security assessments conducted at district campuses.
The board will also review the district’s standard operating procedures for weekly exterior door inspections and reporting. The procedures relate to campus security measures intended to ensure doors remain properly secured and monitored.Meeting agenda
Other items
Trustees are also scheduled to consider adopting a proclamation recognizing Gifted and Talented Awareness Week, scheduled for April 6-10, 2026.
The consent agenda includes several requests for proposals related to district operations, including advertising and marketing services, athletic equipment and supplies, fuel products and delivery services and catering and event-related services.
Instructional and operations items
Trustees will review several items related to instructional services, human resources and business operations. Among those items is discussion and possible action on publishers for math textbooks for kindergarten through 12th grade.
The board will also receive a report regarding the district’s approved calendar for the 2026-27 school year and consider a correction to the contract term for a request for proposal related to the district’s fully insured dental plan.
Trustees are also scheduled to consider a February budget amendment for the fiscal year that runs from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. Another report will outline an interlocal agreement with the City of McAllen involving Community Development Block Grant funding for a community parking lot at Dorothea Brown Middle School.
Closed session
During closed session, trustees are scheduled to discuss personnel matters, including employee recommendations, resignations and retirements. The board will also discuss school safety and security, including the Texas Education Agency intruder detection audit and procedures related to weekly exterior door inspections and reporting.
Additional closed session items include potential litigation and possible real estate acquisition.
Following closed session discussions, trustees may take action on those items in open session before adjourning the meeting.
