McAllen, TX - McAllen Public Library Director Kate P. Horan has been elected 2026 president-elect of the Texas Library Association. The statewide appointment reflects nearly 35 years of leadership in public and academic libraries.
Background
In 2025, Horan received the Texas Library Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Under her leadership, McAllen Public Library has earned statewide recognition, including Best in Texas honors for the South Texas Book Festival. The library also marked a decade of celebrating literacy and culture through Día de los Niños.
Leadership role
As president-elect, Horan will help guide the next phases of the association’s strategic plan. The role includes supporting transparent communication, strong governance practices and engagement across school, academic, public and special libraries.
