The McAllen Public Library will host a free community safety program later this month aimed at helping residents improve situational awareness and emergency preparedness.
“Aware & Prepare” is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m. at the Palm View Community Center Gym, located at 3401 Jordan Road West in McAllen. The program is open to all ages.
Focus on safety and preparedness
The presentation will be led by U.S. LawShield and will focus on practical strategies for recognizing potential risks, improving personal safety and responding effectively during emergencies. Organizers said the session is designed to provide everyday safety knowledge that can be applied at home, work or in public spaces.
In addition to discussion-based instruction, the program will include live self-defense demonstrations intended to show basic techniques and concepts related to personal protection.
Community-centered programming
Library officials said the event reflects the McAllen Public Library’s ongoing effort to offer educational and life-skill programming beyond traditional library services, while partnering with outside organizations to address community needs.
The Palm View Branch Library regularly hosts programs focused on wellness, education and public awareness for residents of all ages.
