McAllen TX - A Hidalgo County jury found Julio Cesar Valdez, 52, of McAllen, guilty of two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child, two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, and three counts of indecency with a child by contact, Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios announced.
An investigation by the McAllen Police Department began Jan. 26, 2025, after officers received a report of sexual assault involving Valdez and two minor children. The investigation determined that Valdez sexually assaulted both children over a period of approximately two years.
During the trial, jurors heard testimony regarding Valdez’s relationship with the family and how he used the trust placed in him while caring for the children. The evidence also showed that Valdez took steps to keep the children from disclosing the abuse and demonstrated the lasting trauma experienced by the children and their family.
The jury assessed a sentence of 25 years in prison for each of the two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child, five years in prison for each of the two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, and two years in prison for each of the three counts of indecency with a child by contact. The sentences will run concurrently.
The case was heard by Judge Rose Guerra Reyna in the 206th District Court of Hidalgo County.
“The jury has delivered justice and sent a clear message that our community will not tolerate those who take advantage of the most vulnerable members of our community,” Palacios said. “Our office will continue to hold accountable those who prey upon children and violate the trust placed in them.”
Assistant District Attorneys Cynthia M. Martinez, Michelle Beltran and Nicole Rodriguez of the Special Crimes Division prosecuted the case.
