McAllen Marathon to Draw Thousands as City Prepares 2026 Scott Crane Run
Staff Report
McAllen, TX - McAllen is preparing to host the 13th annual McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Run on Jan. 17, 2026, an event expected to bring more than 12,000 runners and spectators to the city for a full slate of race distances and a course certified for Boston Marathon qualification.
The race, presented by H-E-B, features a 26.2-mile marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, 6-person relay and a Kids Final Mile. All events will take place on the same day for the first time, according to organizers. The flat, fast route is promoted as suitable for personal records and competitive qualifying times.
The event honors former City Commissioner Scott Crane, who served three terms beginning in 2005 and was known for championing health, outdoor activity and community fitness. The City Commission named the marathon in his memory to recognize his work in expanding recreational opportunities and promoting an active lifestyle.
Sasha Crane, his widow, said during the renaming ceremony that the event reflects her husband’s goals for the community. She said he encouraged residents of all ages and experience levels to stay active and enjoy the city’s parks and public spaces.
Crane, who died in 2017, is remembered as an advocate for quality-of-life initiatives, including support for the arts, outdoor recreation and public service programs. He was also a marathon runner and frequent participant in local fitness events.
Registration is open at McAllenMarathon.com.
