MCALLEN, Texas — McAllen Public Library will observe Library Amnesty Month from April 1 through May 4, allowing patrons to return overdue items without paying fines.
During the amnesty period, any overdue McAllen Public Library materials returned to an MPL location will have associated fees waived, regardless of how long the items have been checked out.
Amnesty Month Details
Library officials state the initiative encourages the return of books, DVDs, CDs and other borrowed materials while helping patrons clear outstanding balances on their accounts.
Items may be returned to any McAllen Public Library location, including Main Library, Lark Branch and Palm View Branch.
Theme and Activities
This year’s theme, “Returning Books is the Way,” will be featured throughout the month, including themed photo opportunities at Main Library and a grand prize raffle.
As the amnesty period concludes, organizers plan a weekend of themed activities leading up to May 4, including a movie marathon, hands-on activities and a community celebration at Main Library.
