McAllen, TX - The McAllen Public Library is marking Women’s History Month with a diverse lineup of programs throughout March, offering activities for children, teens and adults that highlight women’s contributions, creativity and impact across history and culture.
The monthlong celebration features book discussions, educational presentations, art activities, and cultural programs held at the Main Library, Lark Branch Library and Palm View Branch Library.
Programs for children and families
The library is offering several youth-focused events designed to introduce children to influential women through storytelling, art and interactive learning.
An In-B-Tween Club Movie Night on March 11 at the Main Library invites participants to watch an animated film about a young woman who disguises herself as a soldier to protect her family.
Younger children can participate in “Toddler Time: Her Story” on March 12 at the Palm View Branch Library, which features books about heroines and innovators paired with songs and movement activities.
Art-based programming includes “Mini Masterpieces” on March 22 at the Main Library, where participants will explore artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe and create their own artwork.
Additional programs include:
“Toddler Time: Mom-umental Milestones” on March 24 at Lark Branch Library, celebrating influential women and mothers through stories and crafts
“Homeschool Art Zone: Women’s History Month” on March 25 at Lark Branch Library, where tweens explore painting and sculpture inspired by female artists
“La Hora de los Cuentos: Latinitas” on March 31 at Palm View Branch Library, featuring bilingual stories and activities about Latina trailblazers
Teen programs focus on creativity and health
Teens can take part in programs that blend education, culture and creative expression.
The month begins with “Understand Your Cycle” on March 4 at the Main Library, offering education on reproductive and menstrual health in partnership with Access Esperanza Clinic.
Other teen events include:
Anime Club: Hinamatsuri on March 10 at Lark Branch Library, celebrating Japanese Girls’ Day with anime and origami
Karaoke with the Stars on March 17 at Palm View Branch Library, featuring music from influential female artists
Flower Crown Making on March 18 at the Main Library, encouraging participants to create wearable art inspired by strong women in their lives
Adult programs highlight literature and social issues
Adult programming includes book discussions, art classes and a featured lecture examining women’s experiences at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Sunday Book Club on March 15 at the Main Library will discuss The Wedding People by Alison Espach, a novel centered on women redefining their lives and identities.
A Sketching Class on March 17 at Lark Branch Library invites participants to explore their creativity while honoring female visionaries.

Palm View Book Club on March 26, featuring Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
Valley Root Series: Lives of Women at the Border on March 26 at the Main Library, where Professor Jennifer Clark will discuss how border policies impact migrant women and communities
Community celebration
Library officials said the goal of the programming is to create opportunities for the community to learn about and celebrate women’s achievements through engaging and accessible events.
All programs are open to the public and take place throughout March at multiple library locations across McAllen.
