McAllen TX - The McAllen Public Library Main Branch has announced its September lineup of programs for kids, teens and adults, including special events celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, observed Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
Kids Programs
Baby Storytime, for ages 0 to 16 months, will be held Tuesdays, Sept. 1, 8, 22 and 29, at 1 p.m. Sensory Storytime will be held Wednesdays, Sept. 2, 9, 23 and 30, at 11 a.m. Toddler Time, for ages 16 months to 4 years, will be held Wednesdays, Sept. 3, 9 and 24, at 1 p.m.
Additional children’s programs include Coloring Day on Sept. 6, Bloom & Bond Breastfeeding Support Group on Sept. 10, Homeschool Hangout on Sept. 11 and 25, Grandparents’ Day Storytime on Sept. 12, Mini Masterpieces on Sept. 13, MPL Kids: Early Literacy on Sept. 15, an Essential Skills for Tweens: First Aid Skills session on Sept. 19, Switch Sundays: Super Smash Bros on Sept. 20, an Apple Craft on Sept. 21, a Hispanic Heritage Craft on Sept. 23, a Bookmark Contest Workshop on Sept. 26, Little Cocina on Sept. 27, and Family Storytime on Sept. 28.
Several community partners will present programs at the library, including the Children’s Bereavement Center on Sept. 14, MHP Salud’s Parents As First Teachers program on Sept. 16, the Hidalgo County Health Department on Sept. 17, and Salma Psychotherapy’s Play Therapy program on Sept. 18.
Teen Programs
Teen programs at the Main Branch include Where It Clicks: AI Game Design Workshop on Sept. 5, Fuel Your Mind on Sept. 8, Unplugged: Buttons & Rosettes on Sept. 9, Trinket Tuesday: Pulseras on Sept. 15, Paleta Picnic on Sept. 17, DIY Bookmarks on Sept. 19, a Learn to Code with Scratch session on Sept. 20, Make a Muñeca María on Sept. 22, a Tinkercad Basics session on Sept. 27, and Trinket Tuesday: Book Magnets on Sept. 29. The library’s Teen Advisory Council will meet Sept. 12 and 26, offering community service hours.
Adult Programs
Adult programs include weekly 1-on-1 Tech Help every Wednesday at 2 p.m., with registration required. Other programs include a film screening of “The Extraordinary Caterpillar” in partnership with the Native Plant Society of Texas on Sept. 4, a Nature Series program on Sept. 5, Game On: Super Smash Club on Sept. 6, an Unfolded Poetry session on Sept. 8 and 22, MPL Anime/Manga Club on Sept. 10, Craft and Chat: Llama Weaving on Sept. 12, Sunday Book Club on Sept. 13, MPL Gaming on Sept. 15 and 29, Diverse Voices Book Club on Sept. 17, a Local Author Showcase on Sept. 19, an Access & Advocacy: Disability Support Resources Workshop on Sept. 20, a Valley Roots Series program on Sept. 24, a Mental Health Matters program with NAMI South Texas Rio Grande Valley on Sept. 25 for Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and a Resident Evil 30th anniversary celebration on Sept. 30. A recurring Growing & Nourishing Healthy Communities program will be held multiple Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the month.
