McAllen, TX - The City of McAllen’s City Secretary Vital Statistics Department has received a 2025 Vital Statistics Spotlight Award from the Texas Department of State Health Services, recognizing excellence in public service among local registrars statewide.
The award honors teams that demonstrate innovation, collaboration and professionalism in supporting Texas’ vital statistics mission, which includes the registration and maintenance of birth and death records.
Statewide recognition process
The 2025 selection process drew more than 150 nominations from across Texas. Award recipients were chosen through a peer-based, anonymous evaluation, underscoring the competitiveness of the honor.
McAllen was one of only three cities statewide to receive the award in the Local Registrars category, joining San Antonio and San Marcos.
Commitment to accuracy and service
According to the state, the City Secretary Vital Statistics Department was recognized for its management of vital records and for maintaining high standards of accuracy, integrity and compassion while assisting residents, often during sensitive and emotional circumstances.
“These offices collectively process hundreds of thousands of applications each year and issue millions of certified records across Texas,” City Manager Isaac J. Tawil said in a statement. “Our team in McAllen meets this responsibility with innovation, collaboration and an unwavering commitment to service.”

The Vital Statistics Spotlight Award is based on five core values outlined by the state: innovation in records management, collaboration with partners, professionalism in daily operations, continuous improvement of services, and compassionate customer service to families and the public.
