McAllen, TX - Moses Patterson, athletic coordinator and head football coach at McAllen ISD’s McAllen Memorial High School, has been named a Regional Coach of the Year by the Texas High School Coaches Association.
The Texas High School Coaches Association announced the 2025-26 Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Regional Coach of the Year honorees for football. Patterson was named the top head coach for Region 7 in Class 5A, a region that includes the Rio Grande Valley and other parts of South Texas.
Team performance
The Mustangs finished last season with a 9-3 overall record and won a district championship with a 7-0 mark in district play.
Patterson has served as head coach of the Mustangs since 2021.
City recognition
Patterson has been invited to be recognized with a City Proclamation at a McAllen City Commission meeting scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, March 9, at McAllen City Hall.
Selection process
According to the association, THSCA members may nominate a head coach and/or assistant coach for the Coach of the Year award following state championships in each sport. Nominations are reviewed and selected by the THSCA Awards Committee, which is comprised of athletic directors representing areas across Texas.
The award is presented in partnership with Texas Farm Bureau Insurance, which honors coaches for their commitment to the communities they serve.
District profile
McAllen ISD is a 2025 recipient of the state’s highest “A” accountability rating and earned a 2025 Postsecondary Readiness Distinction. The district includes 31 campuses and serves approximately 19,500 students.
