McAllen, TX - A section of Mile 7 East in McAllen will close to through traffic beginning Monday, Jan. 19, as crews begin a road reconstruction project, city officials announced.
The closure will affect Mile 7 East between Shary Road (FM 494) and Taylor Road. Shary Road and Mile 7 West will remain open to traffic during the construction period.
Detours and traffic impacts
Drivers traveling through the area will be directed to use FM 2220 (Ware Road) and State Highway 107 as detour routes. A guided detour will be in place to assist motorists and reduce congestion.
City officials are encouraging drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signage while construction is underway.
Project timeline
The road reconstruction project on Mile 7 East is expected to take approximately six weeks, weather permitting. Officials said the work is intended to improve roadway conditions and long-term safety for motorists.
