No Regular MISD Board Meeting This Week; Board to Hold Budget Workshop Wednesday, Covering Pay Equity, Staffing, and Employee Benefits for 2026-2027

McALLEN TX - The McAllen Independent School District Board of Trustees will hold a working meeting Wednesday, May 27, 2026, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Dr. Ricardo Chapa Board Room, McAllen ISD Administration Building, 2000 N. 23rd St.

While the district’s posted calendar of meeting lists a regular board meeting scheduled for May 26, no agenda was posted online as of Friday, May 22. The Board will instead hold a workshop this coming Wednesday. No reason was posted for the cancellation of the regular board meeting. The District normally holds to regular board meetings per month. Board meetings are normally held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.

The session will be devoted entirely to a discussion of the district’s proposed 2026-2027 budget, with Superintendent Dr. René Gutiérrez leading the presentation on behalf of Deputy Superintendent for Business and Operations Lorena Garcia.

Topics on the agenda include the proposed budget development update, compensation and pay equity considerations, staffing and position considerations, supplemental compensation and stipend considerations, an employee benefits update, and athletics program considerations.

The workshop is open to the public and will include a public comment period. Formal action may be taken on items discussed during the session.
