Edinburg, TX - Runoffs have been projected in both parties’ primary races for Texas House District 41 following the March 3 election in Hidalgo County.
Texas House District 41
This district is primarily based in McAllen but extends into Mission, Edinburg and Pharr. In the Democratic primary, the Associated Press projected a runoff between Julio Salinas and Seby Haddad. With an estimated 99% of votes counted, Salinas received 6,004 votes, or 38.6%, while Haddad received 5,805 votes, or 37.3%. Eric Holguín finished with 3,753 votes, or 24.1%.
The incumbent in District 41, Democratic state Rep. Bobby Guerra, is not seeking reelection in 2026.
On the Republican side, the Associated Press also projected a runoff. With an estimated 81.17% of votes counted, Sergio Sanchez led with 2,840 votes, or 45.8%, followed by Gary Groves with 2,385 votes, or 38.4%. Sarah Sagredo-Hammond received 982 votes, or 15.8%.Texas House District 40
This district is based primarily in Edinburg but extends into sections of McAllen, Pharr and San Juan. In the Democratic primary for District 40, incumbent Terry Canales was uncontested. Vote totals were not listed.
In the Republican primary, results were still being counted and no projected nominee had been called as of the latest update. With an estimated 78.92% of votes counted, Celeste Cabrera-Huff had 1,211 votes, or 38.2%, Nehemias Gomez had 1,183 votes, or 37.3%, and Vangela Churchill had 780 votes, or 24.6%.
Results for the races may change as all votes are counted.
