The McAllen News Tribune Is Here
We're focused on providing news about McAllen TX.
The McAllen News Tribune exists because McAllen deserves stories that focus deeply on our city - its people, its neighborhoods, its challenges, and its possibilities - in a way that is consistent, transparent, and accountable.
For years, important stories in McAllen have unfolded quietly: decisions at City Hall, changes in our schools, shifts in local business and development, and the everyday victories and struggles of the people who live here. Too often, those stories either go untold or get only a paragraph of attention before the news cycle moves on. The McAllen News Tribune was started to change that by taking our city seriously and treating local information as a public service, not an afterthought.
What you can expect
Here’s what this newsletter will aim to deliver:
Original local reporting on city government, budgets, public safety, housing, schools, and other issues that shape daily life in McAllen.
Explaners and context that break down complex topics, including tax proposals, development projects, or policy changes, into clear, useful information.
Community-focused stories that highlight residents, small businesses, nonprofits, and underrepresented voices that rarely get a platform.
Regular updates so readers don’t have to sift through countless social media sites or scattered sources to understand what’s happening in their own backyard.
Posts may range from quick news updates to longer, in-depth pieces, as well as occasional data-based stories and Q&As with local leaders, organizers, and neighbors.
How you can contribute
This is not meant to be a one-way broadcast. The McAllen News Tribune will be strongest if it reflects the concerns, questions, and perspectives of the people who live and work here.
You can help shape the coverage by:
Suggesting story ideas: Share tips about issues in your neighborhood, questions you have about local decisions, or topics that aren’t getting enough attention.
Submitting opinion pieces: Thoughtful, grounded commentary from residents is welcome, whether it’s about city policy, education, transportation, culture, or day-to-day life in McAllen.
Providing feedback: Say what’s useful, what’s missing, and what you’d like to see more of. Constructive criticism is part of building something truly community-serving.
Opinion pieces will be clearly labeled as such and held to basic standards: fact-based, civil, and focused on ideas rather than personal attacks. The goal is to create a space where disagreements can be aired honestly without becoming toxic.
Why your participation matters
Local news only works when it stays connected to real people and real problems. By subscribing, reading, sharing, and contributing, you help build an information commons for McAllen, a place where residents can get reliable news, ask hard questions, and see themselves and their neighbors reflected.
If this mission resonates with you, please subscribe, share the newsletter with someone in McAllen, and consider sending a note with your first story idea or opinion pitch. This is just the beginning, and your voice will help decide where The McAllen News Tribune goes from here.
We’re still working how all of this will work out. Things may be a little uneven as we kick off. Please bear with us. With your feedback, we’ll get it right.
Thanks
